Appeal to the Pope: Stop the Humanitarian Tragedy in Gaza
The Charlemagne Foundation and the Emmanuel Foundation are promoting an appeal to Pope Leone XIV through a petition entitled “Appeal to the Pope: International Civil Society Calls for an End to the Genocide in Gaza,” requesting the presence of His Holiness with food, water, and medicine. Holy Father, the Earth is burning and the cries of the Cross and of the Earth are deafening and yet they do not reach the ears of those in power. International and humanitarian law is being ignored, relations between populations are limited by the mere display of force, and the multilateral institutions are powerless.
We are men and women, young and old; we believe in God, and trust human beings; we are Italian and international citizens and representatives of Organizations, Movements, Communities, Associations and Public and Private Institutions.
Each of us, in various places throughout the world, has welcomed your invitation to fast and pray.
We are now asking You, Your Holiness, to give substance to our prayers.
We are asking You to be a tangible sign of the presence of Christ in the place where today every form of dignity, humanity and hope is wearing out.
We are asking You to act urgently with a sign for every Head of State and every human being, starting with those who are going through hell, and who constantly trust in the gaze and in the intervention of God as the only Saviour.
We are asking you to organize and preside over the Pilgrimage of Hope that will take food, water and medicines to Gaza. You can, Holy Father, because Your Love is greater than anything else.
We are turning to You as our Father and Shepherd, and we are certain that God needs our feet to reach the ends of the world. He needs our hands to lift up those who have no strength left and who need our hearts to console those who are desperate.
God needs our “yes”. The least among us, at this time, the men, women and children in Gaza, need the presence of Christ; a living, saving presence that is powerful and loving, and that will end this massacre of innocents.

Saint-Père, la Terre brûle, le cri de la Croix et de la Terre est assourdissant, mais il ne parvient pas aux oreilles des puissants.
Le droit international et humanitaire est bafoué, les relations entre les peuples s’épuisent sous l’effet des rapports de force, et les institutions multilatérales sont impuissantes.
Nous sommes des femmes et des hommes, des jeunes et des personnes âgées; nous croyons en Dieu, nous avons confiance en l’humanité; nous sommes citoyens italiens et internationaux, représentants d’organisations, de mouvements, de communautés, d’associations et d’institutions publiques et privées.
Chacun de nous, dans différentes parties du monde, a accueilli son invitation au jeûne et à la prière.
Nous Vous demandons maintenant, Votre Sainteté, de donner forme à nos prières.
Nous Vous demandons d’être un signe tangible de la présence du Christ là où aujourd’hui toute forme de dignité, d’humanité et d’espérance a disparu.
Nous Vous demandons d’agir d’urgence, comme un signe pour chaque chef d’État et chaque être humain, à commencer par ceux qui vivent en enfer et qui se confient sans cesse dans le regard et l’intervention de Dieu comme unique Sauveur.
Nous Vous demandons d’organiser et de présider le Pèlerinage de l’Espérance, en apportant nourriture, eau et médicaments à Gaza.
Vous le pouvez, Saint-Père, car votre amour est plus grand que toute autre considération.
Nous nous adressons à Vous comme à un Père et à un Pasteur, certains que Dieu a besoin de nos pieds pour atteindre les extrémités de la terre; il a besoin de nos mains pour relever ceux qui n’ont plus de force; et il a besoin de nos coeurs pour consoler ceux qui vivent dans le désespoir.
Dieu a besoin de notre oui, et les plus démunis de ce monde – en ce moment, les hommes et les femmes, les filles et les garçons de Gaza – ont besoin de la présence du Christ: une présence vivante, sauveuse, puissante et aimante qui mettra fin à ce massacre d’innocents.

Santo Padre,
El Mundo está ardiendo y el clamor de la Cruz y de la Tierra es ensordecedor; sin embargo, no llega a los oídos de los poderosos. El derecho internacional y humanitario viene ignorado, las relaciones entre los pueblos se reducen al despliegue de relaciones de fuerza y las instituciones multilaterales se muestran impotentes.
Somos mujeres y hombres, jóvenes y ancianos; somos creyentes en Dios, confiados en el ser humano; somos ciudadanos italianos e internacionales, así como referentes de Organizaciones, Movimientos, Comunidades, Asociaciones públicas y privadas.
Cada uno de nosotros, en diversos lugares del mundo, ha acogido su invitación a ayunar y rezar.
Ahora le pedimos, Santidad, que dé forma a nuestras oraciones.
Le pedimos que sea un signo tangible de la presencia de Cristo en el lugar donde hoy se está extinguiendo toda forma de dignidad, humanidad y esperanza.
Le pedimos una acción urgente como signo para todo Jefe de Estado y todo ser humano, empezando por quienes viven en el infierno y confían, sin cesar, en la mirada y la intervención de Dios como único Salvador.
Le pedimos que organice y presida la Peregrinación de la Esperanza, llevando a Gaza alimentos, agua y medicinas.
Usted puede hacerlo, Santo Padre, porque Su Amor es más grande que cualquier otra consideración.
Nos dirigimos a Usted como Padre y Pastor, con la certeza de que Dios necesita de nuestros pies para alcanzar los confines del mundo; necesita de nuestras manos para levantar a quienes ya no tienen fuerzas, y de nuestros corazones para consolar a quienes viven en la desesperación.
Dios necesita de nuestro “sì”, y los últimos de este mundo, en este momento los hombres y mujeres, los niños y niñas de Gaza, urgen la presencia de Cristo; una presencia viva, salvadora, poderosa y amorosa que ponga fin a esta matanza de inocentes.
