Gerry Salole is the new Chair of the Supervisory Board of the European Cultural Foundation

ECF Supervisory Board is delighted to announce that it has chosen Gerry Salole as its next Chair. He will succeed Rien van Gendt who is currently holding the Chairmanship at interim.

As former CEO of the European Foundation Centre (from 2005 to 2020), Gerry Salole has a long career in philanthropy. Before that, he served as Director of the Ford Foundation’s Southern Africa Office, and before that, he served as the Director of the Department of Programme Documentation and Communication at the Bernard van Leer Foundation in the Hague.

Gerry holds a PhD and M.A. Econ from the University of Manchester and a B.A. in Social Anthropology and African History at the London’s School of Oriental and African Studies. Gerry has lateral and wide-ranging interests. He is an independent consultant and serves on several boards, bringing brings hands-on knowledge of the European and international philanthropy sector and a corresponding wide network. Equipped with this experience, we anticipate that he will help ECF rise to the many challenges that lie ahead. We look forward to Gerry’s active contribution to key EFC thematic strategies such as, for instance, the Culture of Solidarity Initiative, our flexible instrument to enable cross-border European activities in times of uncertainty and cultural recovery.
