Foundations Platform F20 and Fondazione Cariplo were pleased to host this year’s (virtual) “Climate Solutions Forum”, from Wednesday, September 29th to Thursday, September 30th in Milan together with their Italian partners Fondazione UnipolisFondazione di Comunità di Messina, and Fondazione Compagnia di San Paolo. The F20 Climate Solutions Forum was also supported by Assifero (Associazione italiana delle Fondazioni ed Enti filantropici), ASviS (L’Alleanza Italiana per lo Sviluppo Sostenibile) and ACRI (Associazione di Fondazioni e di Casse di Risparmio Spa). This year’s F20 event built on the experiences and recommendations to the G20 countries resulting from last year’s F20 Climate Solutions Week and was meant to set the scene for the UN pre-COP on Climate in Milan (September 30th – October 2nd, 2021) and the upcoming G20 summit in Italy, taking place in the end of October.

Under the headline of “Green Recovery, Sustainable Finance, Just Transition: Putting Words into Deeds“, the high-level event referred to the role of the G20 countries to build on the lessons learned from the current health and climate crises and adopt programmes in line with the Paris Climate Agreement and the UN Sustainable Development Goals to build up resilience and deliver on the global goals.

With the Climate Solutions Forum, we sought to:

  • initiate a discussion about the importance of the upcoming G20 summit as well as the COP26 on Climate and COP15 on Biodiversity,
  • share experiences as well as expertise to discuss an integrated approach on how to shape the transformation towards a green and just transition with experts from science, politics, business, and the philanthropy,
  • urge the G20 Heads of States to take action and adopt ambitious and transformative targets for a just and green transition in line of the Paris Climate Agreement and the Sustainable Development Goals.

The focus laid on fostering more ambition, solutions and dialogue. The event consisted of different elements including high-level keynotes, film presentations, panel discussions and breakout sessions engaging the audience. The expected outcome of the event included a list of F20 recommendations towards the G20 Heads of State.
